Reducing Construction Waste: INTO Concept’s Commitment to Sustainable Office Solutions

Construction waste is a growing global issue—but smart design and responsible choices can significantly reduce it. INTO products demonstrate how sustainable materials and modular solutions can make office spaces both environmentally friendly and adaptable.

A Waste Problem Too Big to Ignore

The construction industry is one of the largest sources of waste worldwide. In the European Union, construction and demolition activities generate about 32% of all waste, making it the single largest waste stream by weight (EastCham Finland, 2023).

In Finland alone, construction and demolition sites produced around 13.2 million tonnes of waste in 2019, which accounted for 11.7% of the country’s total waste. Although much of this is mineral-based (like soil and dredging waste), around 400,000 tonnes consisted of wood, metal, and other valuable building materials (Statistics Finland, 2021).

The troubling part? Only 48% of this construction waste is recycled, even though the EU target is 70% (Yle, 2020). This indicates a clear opportunity for more sustainable practices—especially through smarter design, modularity, and responsible material choices.

The INTO Concept Approach: Smart, Sustainable Design

At INTO Concept, we’re driven by the desire to reduce environmental impact through sustainable office furniture and modular POD rooms. Our design philosophy centers around:

  • Modularity that minimizes waste – Our products are made to last and be reconfigured, preventing demolition and material loss.
  • Prefabrication – Easy installation and relocation reduces on-site waste and shortens project timelines.
  • Recyclable materials – All materials used (excluding bonded carpets) are recyclable or reusable.

Spotlight on Sustainability: INTO POD Rooms

Our POD rooms exemplify how modularity and responsible materials come together to reduce environmental impact. They’re built with wooden frames, feature superior acoustic design, and can be relocated or reconfigured as workspace needs evolve—ensuring long life and minimal waste.

  • Constructed with FSC-certified wood
  • Designed for easy installation and minimal on-site waste
  • Fully modular, customizable, and built to last

Nordic Design, Made to Last

Every INTO product is designed in-house and manufactured in collaboration with trusted partners. Our regional production model not only ensures high quality and ethical standards—it also reduces emissions from transport and supports local economies.

Our collection—developed by Finnish designers Hanna Gullstén and Jari Inkinen—is deeply influenced by Nordic nature and sustainability values, resulting in minimalist, flexible, and acoustically optimized furniture that can transform any workspace.

Let’s Design for a Better Future

At INTO Concept, we’re not just making office furniture—we’re rethinking how it’s made, installed, and used, with sustainability at the core. Choosing INTO means aligning with long-term environmental responsibility and creating healthier, more flexible work environments.
